This is a genuinely old-school Kusatsu stay, not a modern resort built to look traditional. The building is real wood construction with no elevator, just stairs between its three floors. It sits right by Yubatake, Kusatsu’s iconic steaming field, close enough to walk over for the Yumomi show, where staff hand-stir the scalding spring water using long wooden paddles. Multiple hot spring sources feed both the private baths and a large communal bath, which is unusual even by Kusatsu standards.
There’s no elevator, so pack light if stairs are a concern. The traditional wooden building only has stairs connecting its floors, which is worth knowing if you’re traveling with heavy luggage. A few reviewers also mentioned a language barrier with some staff, so simple translation apps are worth having on hand.
